Hossein Jaberi Ansari, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs, made the remarks on Saturday, while deeming Yemeni people’s massive support for the elected parliament and its decisions ‘highly significant’ and ‘worthy of attention from the international community.’
Jaberi Ansari went on to add, however, that Saudi Arabia’s ‘unreasonable’ and ‘self-serving’ approach has been the reason why Yemen peace talks had ended futile in Kuwait.
“The negotiations, if in fairness, could serve as an end to a blind war that after almost a year and a half, has brought about nothing but the destruction of Yemen and slaughter of thousands of innocent civilians, including women and children,” he added.
“Regrettably, warmongering still continues in Yemen,” said Jaberi Ansari said. “By targeting schools and hospitals, the Saudis have entered a dangerous level of measures against humanity to the extent where international relief workers and Doctors Without Borders (MSF) have not been spared from the vengeful attacks of Saudi-led coalition.”
“Widespread condemnation of attacks on hospitals and schools by international institutions shows, on the one hand, that the world cannot forever remain silent in the face of aggression and tyranny,” the Iranian diplomat said, adding “and on the other, Saudi’s disregard of such warnings is indicative of the ineffectiveness of the Security Council in stopping the Saudi regime.”
He went on to express confidence that if it were not for the compliance of certain permanent members of the Security Council with Saudi Arabia’s excessive demands, the war in Yemen would have not continued for so long.
